Pinterest ads can send traffic straight to an Etsy listing, but Etsy sellers cannot claim their shop on Pinterest, install the Pinterest tag or run catalog shopping ads. For most sellers that means organic pins and Etsy’s Offsite Ads first, promoted pins on proven listings second, and a store on your own domain once Pinterest shows it can sell.
Selling on Etsy and Shopify? Our Pinterest ads agency page explains how we run Pinterest for DTC and Etsy brands together with the pages the pins send traffic to.
What Pinterest allows when your shop lives on Etsy
Most Pinterest-for-Etsy advice skips the rules, then sellers discover them halfway through setup. Pinterest separates what any advertiser can do from what requires a website you own.
| Feature | Etsy shop | Your own store (for example Shopify) |
|---|---|---|
| Promoted pins linking to a product page | Yes, to an Etsy listing URL | Yes |
| Claim your website on Pinterest | No: marketplaces like Etsy cannot be claimed | Yes |
| Pinterest tag for conversion tracking | No: the tag is code added to a site you control | Yes |
| Catalogs and shopping ads | No: they require a claimed, verified domain | Yes |
| Measuring sales from Pinterest | Etsy stats and a Google Analytics connection | Pinterest tag, analytics and your store data |
The sources are Pinterest’s own help center. Its page on claiming your website says you are unable to claim most online stores hosted on marketplaces like Etsy, eBay and Amazon, because you must own the domain and be able to edit its source code. Its catalog setup guide lists claiming your website and installing the Pinterest tag as prerequisites for shopping ads. Etsy, for its part, supports a Google Analytics connection but no Pinterest tag.
Why Pinterest suits Etsy products
Pinterest is where people go to plan, which is exactly when handmade, vintage, gifting and home products get discovered. Pinterest reported an all-time high of 640 million monthly active users in the second quarter of 2026, up 11 percent.
Pinterest’s own research points the same way. It reports that the number one reason people use Pinterest is to find new products and brands (Global Web Index, 2024), and that 96 percent of top searches are unbranded. In a 2024 U.S. survey for Pinterest by Talk Shoppe, weekly Pinterest users spent 40 percent more on average than non-users, with baskets 20 percent larger. These are Pinterest-published figures, but they explain why unknown Etsy brands can get found there.

You may already be on Pinterest: Etsy Offsite Ads
Before paying for Pinterest ads yourself, check what Etsy is already doing. Etsy’s Offsite Ads promote listings on channels including Google, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, and you pay only when an ad leads to an order within 30 days.
- Fee: 15 percent of the order for shops under the threshold, 12 percent above it.
- Threshold: once you make $10,000 or more on Etsy in any 365-day period, Offsite Ads become mandatory for the lifetime of your shop; below that you are enrolled automatically but can opt out.
- Cap: the fee for any single order never exceeds $100.
- Control: you cannot choose which listings run; Etsy advertises what performs best on each channel.

For low-priced listings, a 15 percent fee on attributed orders can be a reasonable cost of reach. For high-margin or high-ticket products, running your own Pinterest ads to the same listings gives you more control over which products and audiences get the budget.

How to run Pinterest ads to an Etsy shop
If you decide to run your own Pinterest ads to Etsy listings, set them up the way Pinterest’s ad requirements expect: pins saved to your own business profile and to public boards, with a destination URL and no link shorteners.
- Create a Pinterest business account for your brand, with the same name and imagery as your Etsy shop.
- Pin your best sellers organically first. Etsy’s seller handbook suggests pinning at least once a day so followers see fresh content.
- Design for the feed. Etsy recommends vertical photos, variation images and lifestyle shots, and notes that light or white backgrounds perform well on its Pinterest channels.
- Promote proven pins only. Choose listings with strong Etsy conversion and reviews, and pins that already earn saves.
- Target keywords as well as interests. Build keyword groups from what buyers search on Pinterest, and launch seasonal campaigns weeks early, because planners start early.
- Measure through Etsy. Without the Pinterest tag, watch Etsy’s traffic sources and orders, and use separate listings or time windows to read results.

What Pinterest ads cost
Pinterest does not publish a minimum daily budget. You pay through an auction, and Pinterest bills accumulated spend on the first day of the following month or when you reach your billing threshold, whichever comes first; for new accounts the first threshold is $50.
Compare that with Etsy Ads, Etsy’s on-site advertising, where the minimum daily budget is $1 and you pay only when someone clicks. Etsy Ads reach buyers already searching on Etsy; Pinterest reaches them earlier, while they plan. For most sellers the order is Etsy Ads and organic pins first, Pinterest ads on proven listings second.
| Etsy Ads | Etsy Offsite Ads | Your own Pinterest ads | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where ads run | Etsy search, category pages and Market pages | Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and others | |
| How you pay | Per click, from $1 a day | 15% or 12% of attributed orders, capped at $100 | Auction; billed monthly or at a threshold |
| Who chooses listings | You | Etsy | You |
| Shopper’s stage | Already searching on Etsy | Varies by channel | Planning and discovering |
| Best for | Capturing existing demand | Hands-off reach | Testing proven listings with new audiences |
Common mistakes Etsy sellers make with Pinterest ads
- Promoting new listings with no reviews. Paid traffic converts best on listings that already sell; start with proven products.
- Square or cluttered images. Pinterest is a vertical feed, and the pin has to stand out next to inspiration content.
- Judging results in the first week. Pinterest users save and come back later, so give campaigns longer than you would on other platforms.
- Forgetting Offsite Ads. If Etsy is already advertising the same listing on Pinterest, you may be paying twice for the same buyer.
- Treating Pinterest like Instagram. Keywords and seasonality matter more here than trends and follower counts.
When to move from Etsy to your own store
Etsy is a good place to start and a hard place to scale paid traffic. You cannot install the Pinterest tag or other ad pixels, test the page, build bundles across your catalog or keep the customer for email and repeat purchase. Once Pinterest shows it can sell your products, a store on your own domain unlocks the Pinterest tag, catalog and shopping ads, and every lever that raises order value.
Those levers are where the money is. Grab Green, an 8-figure cleaning products brand, raised average order value 80 percent through bundling, alongside free-shipping threshold tests, a cart progress bar, multi-packs, value badges on larger sizes and price tests. Most of that, from a cart progress bar to bundles across a whole catalog, is not possible on an Etsy listing. The full story is in the Grab Green case study.
Before you move, benchmark where you stand with what a good conversion rate on Etsy looks like. When you are ready, our ecommerce CRO and landing page design teams build and test the store and pages that Pinterest traffic lands on.

Frequently asked questions
Can you run Pinterest ads to an Etsy shop?
Yes. Pinterest’s ad requirements ask for pins saved to your own business profile and public boards, with a destination URL, and an Etsy listing can be that URL. What you cannot do on Etsy is claim the shop, install the Pinterest tag or run catalog shopping ads, which all need a domain you own.
Can I claim my Etsy shop on Pinterest?
No. Pinterest’s help center says you are unable to claim most online stores hosted on marketplaces like Etsy, eBay and Amazon, because claiming requires owning the domain and editing its source code.
Does Etsy already advertise my listings on Pinterest?
Possibly. Etsy’s Offsite Ads promote listings on channels including Pinterest, Google, Facebook and Instagram. You pay a fee only on orders attributed to those ads within 30 days: 15 percent, or 12 percent once you have made $10,000 on Etsy in any 365-day period, capped at $100 per order.
How much do Pinterest ads cost?
Pinterest does not publish a minimum daily budget. You pay through an auction and are billed monthly or when you reach a billing threshold, which starts at $50 for new accounts.
Should Etsy sellers use Pinterest ads or Etsy Ads?
Etsy Ads reach shoppers already searching on Etsy, from $1 a day. Pinterest ads reach people earlier, while they plan. Most sellers should master Etsy Ads and organic pinning first, then test Pinterest ads on their best-selling listings.
