How Much Do TikTok Ads Cost? Budgets, CPMs and Agency Fees

How much do TikTok ads cost: budgets, CPMs and agency fees

TikTok ads have no fixed price: you set a budget and pay through an auction. Budgets must be above $50 a day per campaign and above $20 a day per ad group, and brands using Triple Whale paid a median $4.08 per thousand impressions over the year to July 2026. An agency fee and creative production come on top.

How TikTok charges: the auction and bidding options

Every TikTok impression is sold in an auction. According to TikTok’s bidding documentation, the auction ranks ads by bid price and by how relevant the ad is likely to be to each person. In practice, more relevant creative can win impressions at a lower cost.

  • CPM: you bid what you are willing to pay for 1,000 impressions.
  • oCPM: you still pay per 1,000 impressions, but TikTok shows the ad to people likely to take your chosen action, such as a purchase.
  • CPC: you bid per click.
  • CPV: you pay for a 6-second view or an interaction in the first 6 seconds.
  • Maximum Delivery and Cost Cap: bid strategies that either spend the budget for the most results or try to hold an average cost.

For most ecommerce brands, conversion campaigns optimized for purchases are the default. The bid strategy matters less than giving the system enough budget and enough creative to learn which people buy.

What a realistic monthly TikTok budget looks like

The minimums set a floor. One campaign just above the $50 daily minimum costs about $1,500 a month. Three ad groups, each above the $20 minimum, need more than $60 a day, or about $1,800 a month. TikTok’s own budgeting guidance goes further and recommends at least $30 a day per ad group for web conversion campaigns in North America, which puts three ad groups at about $2,700 a month.

Bar chart of minimum monthly TikTok ad spend by setup: one campaign at 50 dollars a day about 1,500 dollars, three ad groups at 20 dollars a day about 1,800 dollars, three ad groups at TikTok's recommended 30 dollars a day about 2,700 dollars

Those are floors, not targets. A budget at the minimum can tell you whether TikTok is worth pursuing, but it rarely gives the algorithm enough conversions to optimize well. Plan a test long enough to see a stable cost per acquisition, then scale what works.

CPM benchmarks, and why they mislead

Triple Whale’s TikTok benchmarks, drawn from more than 5,900 brands, put the median TikTok CPM at $4.08 for August 2025 to July 2026, down from $5.71 the year before. Over the same period, its Meta benchmarks put the median Facebook and Instagram CPM at $15.06. These are medians from ecommerce brands that use Triple Whale, so treat them as directional.

Cheap impressions are not cheap customers. TikTok viewers are often earlier in the buying journey and quicker to scroll away, so click-through and conversion rates can be lower. In the same Triple Whale data, the median TikTok cost per acquisition was $17.07 against $38.99 on Meta, yet median return on ad spend was lower on TikTok, 1.51 against 1.88, because average order values were lower ($50.32 against $73.36). The number that matters is cost per acquisition: what you paid in ads for each order, measured against your margin.

Creative is a cost line on TikTok

On TikTok, creative is not a one-off expense. Native, creator-style video is what works, and in our experience it fatigues faster than on Meta, so brands need a steady supply of new hooks and variants.

Spark Ads, which boost an organic post from your account or a creator who authorizes it, often perform well. TikTok reports that Spark Ads in Video Shopping Ads, a TikTok Shop format, delivered a 30 percent higher completion rate, a 43 percent higher conversion rate and a 4 percent lower CPM than non-Spark ads. Budget for creator fees or in-house production, and for the time it takes to brief, review and test.

  • Creator content: fees vary widely by creator and usage rights.
  • Editing and variants: several hooks on the same body is the cheapest way to find a winner.
  • Testing time: new variants every week so the account never runs on one tired ad.

TikTok Shop costs

If you sell through TikTok Shop, the costs change. Since July 2025, GMV Max has been the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads. On top of ad spend, TikTok set its U.S. referral fee at 6 percent per order in April 2024; several seller guides report a rise to 8 percent for most categories from August 2026, so confirm your rate in Seller Center. Affiliate commissions and fulfillment requirements add further costs.

Shop can lower friction for impulse products, but you lose the landing page, the post-purchase flow and much of the customer data. We model both paths before recommending it.

What a TikTok ads agency costs

TikTok agencies use the same pricing models as Facebook agencies: a monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, or a base fee plus a percentage. Clutch’s pricing data puts the average monthly cost of social media marketing projects at $5,107. In Credo’s survey of 507 marketing agencies and consultants, flat fees were the most common billing model for social ads agencies, and 39 percent set a minimum retainer of $1,000 to $3,000 a month.

TikTok needs more creative than Meta, so check what the fee includes: creator briefs, editing and weekly variants, or only media buying. At Parah Group, creative volume is part of how we scope the fee on a call, usually as one fee across platforms, and the audit is free. For a detailed breakdown of fee models, see Facebook ads agency pricing.

When TikTok ads are worth the cost, and when they are not

TikTok tends to pay back for products that can be shown working in a few seconds, that carry a visible before and after, or that sell at an impulse price people will pay without research. It is harder for considered purchases with long research cycles, for products that need a long explanation, and for brands that cannot supply fresh creative every week.

  • Good fit: demonstrable products, strong visual transformation, impulse price points, a brand comfortable with creator content.
  • Weaker fit: high-consideration purchases, complex products, regulated categories with ad restrictions, thin creative supply.
  • The deciding test: cost per acquisition and new-customer revenue after a fair test, compared with what the same budget earns on Meta.

When the numbers point elsewhere, the honest move is to shift the budget to Meta, Snapchat or Pinterest and say why. Platform choice should follow unit economics, not fashion.

Lowering TikTok cost per acquisition after the click

In our experience, much of a TikTok budget is lost after the click, on product pages built for desktop shoppers who already know the brand. The cheapest way to lower TikTok cost per acquisition is often the page, not the bid.

A landing page that converts 30 percent better cuts cost per acquisition by about 23 percent without changing the ads. STRNG Seeds raised revenue per visitor 90 percent in six months after Parah Group added custom landing pages for paid traffic, multi-packs, free gifts over a cart size, post-purchase upsells and collection filters.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum budget for TikTok ads?

TikTok requires a daily budget above $50 at the campaign level and above $20 at the ad group level. For lifetime budgets, the ad group minimum is the daily minimum multiplied by the number of days, so a 31-day ad group needs at least $620.

How much do TikTok ads cost per 1,000 impressions?

There is no fixed CPM because TikTok runs an auction. In Triple Whale’s data for August 2025 to July 2026, the median TikTok CPM was $4.08 across more than 5,900 brands, compared with $15.06 on Meta across more than 40,000 brands.

How much should a small business spend on TikTok ads?

Enough to clear the minimums and give TikTok’s delivery system room to learn. One campaign just above the $50 daily minimum is about $1,500 a month; TikTok recommends at least $30 a day per ad group for web conversion campaigns in North America.

How much does a TikTok ads agency charge?

Most charge a monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, or a base fee plus a percentage. Clutch’s data puts the average monthly cost of social media marketing projects at about $5,107. Creative production is often priced separately, and on TikTok it is a large part of the work.

Are TikTok ads worth it for ecommerce?

For products that can be shown working in a few seconds and sell at an impulse price, often yes. For considered purchases that need long explanations, Meta or search usually wins. Judge it on cost per acquisition, not CPM.
