Intelligems is worth it if your Shopify store does roughly 1,000 or more orders a month and you have not yet tested prices, shipping thresholds or discounts. As of September 2026 modules start at $69 a month and the Unlimited bundle starts at $349 a month. Below that order volume, or for content-only tests, cheaper tools do the job.
What is Intelligems?
Intelligems is a Shopify A/B testing app built around profit rather than conversion rate. Most testing tools change what a visitor sees. Intelligems also changes what a visitor pays: product prices, discounts, free-shipping thresholds, shipping rates, checkout blocks and post-purchase offers. It reports revenue, profit and COGS side by side on every experiment, so the winner is the variant that made more money, not the one that got more clicks.
It launched on the Shopify App Store on 1 December 2021 and, as of September 2026, shows a 4.8 rating from 193 reviews. It is sold as six modules: Smart Content, Smart Merchandising, Smart Pricing, Smart Shipping, Smart Checkout and Smart Post-Purchase. You can buy modules individually or take the Unlimited bundle.
Two things separate it from a general-purpose tool like VWO or Convert. Price tests are served through Shopify itself (duplicate variants, Shopify Functions or, on Plus, a checkout script), so the tested price is the price charged at checkout. And it reads your cost of goods and reports profit per visitor rather than conversion rate.
How much does Intelligems cost in 2026?
Intelligems pricing scales on sitewide order volume, not on tested visitors. The prices below are the entry tier on the Shopify App Store listing as of September 2026. On the Intelligems website, the same Unlimited bundle at up to 200,000 orders a month lists at $2,894 a month, or $1,279 a month promotional on a three-month minimum. Your price sits between those points depending on orders.

Other terms, as of September 2026, from the vendor’s pricing page. Every plan starts with a 14-day trial with no credit card, but the trial excludes Smart Pricing. Build-your-own plans get 5% off with two modules, 10% with three and 15% with four or more, starting at a tier of up to 10,000 orders a month. Modules and tiers can change on the next billing cycle. Two caveats: Smart Pricing and Smart Checkout prices come out of an interactive configurator rather than a published list, so treat them as quote-based, and the $349 Unlimited figure is the lowest order band. A store doing 20,000 orders a month should budget four figures.
Why is price and shipping-threshold testing different from content A/B testing?
A content test changes pixels. A price test changes money.
With a content test, a script swaps a headline or a hero image in the browser. Cart, checkout and order are untouched. Any visual editor can do it, and Shopify’s own Rollouts feature now runs theme experiments natively for stores on the Grow plan or higher, according to Shopify’s Rollouts documentation.
With a price test, the number on the product page must be the number charged at checkout, and it must hold across sessions and devices. The variant price also has to flow into discount codes, subscriptions, Shop Pay and order exports. A browser-side script cannot do that. The tool has to create the price inside Shopify, as duplicate variants, through Shopify Functions or through a checkout script, then reconcile orders back to the test. Intelligems documents all three paths in its general FAQ.
Shipping-threshold tests have the same property. If control offers free shipping over $75 and the variant over $100, the cart bar, the checkout rate and the profit calculation all have to agree. The payoff is that these tests move profit directly. Shopify’s own data put the average BFCM 2025 cart at $114.70, according to Shopify’s BFCM 2025 report. Moving a threshold by $10 or $15 changes margin on every order that crosses it.
The other difference is sample size. Profit per visitor has far higher variance than conversion rate. Intelligems’ rule of thumb, from the same FAQ, is about 300 orders per group to detect a 10% change in conversion at 90% confidence. Profit reads need more. That is why we tell stores under roughly 1,000 orders a month to start with content and offer tests.
What has Intelligems done for stores we run it on?
We run Intelligems inside our Shopify testing programs, so this is not a review from the outside.
For Momentous, a Shopify supplements brand, one shipping-threshold test added $2M in profit. One test. That upside only exists when the tool can change what the customer pays. The same program moved subscription take rate up 10%, and testing showed that trust and scientific authority beat social proof for that audience.
For Willie’s, a cannabis DTC brand, Intelligems checkout tests ran alongside Rebuy post-purchase offers and a gamified cart bar. In three months, while paid traffic scaled, subscription take rate rose 75%, AOV rose 25% and conversion rose 20%. The checkout tests need Shopify Plus; the rest works on any plan.
If you want price and shipping tests run as part of a full program rather than a tool subscription, see how we structure A/B testing as a monthly program.
When does a store not need Intelligems?
We recommend it often, but not always. Say no in these cases.
- Under about 1,000 orders a month. You will not reach a profit-based read in a reasonable time. Start with offer and content tests on a cheaper tool, or use Shopify Rollouts for theme tests.
- A single SKU at a single price. You can still test a shipping threshold, but the Smart Pricing module is hard to justify.
- You only want checkout and post-purchase tests and you are not on Plus. Intelligems’ checkout documentation states that checkout modifications require a Shopify Plus account, and that checkout tests need the Unlimited plan or the Checkout & Post-Purchase plan. On a standard plan that module buys you nothing.
- Your team wants template and theme tests, not offer tests. Shoplift is built for that and starts cheaper. Smart Content can do it, but it is not the reason to buy Intelligems.
- Nobody owns the roadmap. A store with no one to write tests, QA them and read results will pay for months of nothing. That is true of every tool on this page.
How does Intelligems compare with Shoplift, ABConvert, Convert and VWO?
All prices as of September 2026, taken from each vendor’s pricing page or Shopify App Store listing. Where a price is not published we say so.
| Tool | What it tests on Shopify | Starting price | Priced on | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intelligems | Prices, discounts, shipping thresholds and rates, content, themes, checkout (Plus), post-purchase; profit and COGS reporting | $69/mo (Smart Content); $349/mo (Unlimited, entry order tier) | Sitewide orders | Stores over ~1,000 orders/mo that want to test what customers pay |
| Shoplift | Theme, template and URL split tests; audiences; price testing in beta on Advanced and above | $99/mo, or $74/mo annual (Core); Advanced from $299/mo annual | Total monthly store visitors | Template and navigation tests without a developer |
| ABConvert | Template, theme, URL, shipping, checkout and offer tests on Starter; price tests from Growth | $99/mo (1,000 test orders); $199/mo Growth | Test orders, with per-1K overage | Smaller stores that want price and shipping tests at a lower entry price |
| Convert | Visual-editor content tests, URL tests, Shopify price testing; broad integrations | $299/mo annual or $399/mo monthly (Growth, 100K tested users) | Monthly tested users | Teams running tests across Shopify and non-Shopify properties |
| VWO | Visual-editor tests, split URL tests, heatmaps and recordings; no native price serving | Free Starter up to 50K monthly tested visitors; paid tiers not published, quote-based | Monthly tested users | Lead-gen and multi-site programs; not the first choice for Shopify offer tests |
Under 50K monthly visitors, VWO’s free tier costs nothing. For template tests, Shoplift is simpler. For price tests on a budget, ABConvert’s Growth tier at $199 a month is the cheapest native route we know of, though its September 2026 App Store reviews include complaints about client-side flicker on template tests. Intelligems wins when profit reporting, shipping tests and price tests on a store with real volume are the point.
Should you buy Intelligems, and who should run it?
Buy it if three things are true: you do about 1,000 or more orders a month, you have never tested prices or your free-shipping threshold, and someone will own the roadmap. Skip it, or wait, if you are below that volume, sell one product at one price, or need theme and template work first. Use Shopify Rollouts or Shoplift for that and come back when order volume supports a price test.
Who runs it matters more than which plan you pick. Unlimited includes onboarding and a storefront audit, but not the research, hypotheses, design, development, QA and analysis that make a program. That is our part. If you want price, shipping and offer tests run inside a full Shopify CRO program with your developers in the Slack channel, book an intro call. We will tell you in thirty minutes whether your store has the volume to make it worth it.
Questions people ask about Intelligems
How much does Intelligems cost per month?
As of September 2026 the Shopify App Store listing shows Smart Content at $69 a month, Smart Merchandise and Smart Shipping at $112.10 a month each, and the Unlimited bundle at $349 a month at the entry order tier. Pricing scales with sitewide order volume, so larger stores pay more; the vendor site lists Unlimited at up to 200,000 orders at $2,894 a month, discounted to $1,279 on a three-month minimum.
Does Intelligems have a free trial?
Yes. Every plan starts with a 14-day trial with no credit card required, and you get access to the whole platform except Smart Pricing. That exclusion matters if price testing is the reason you are evaluating the tool. Use the trial for a shipping-threshold or discount test instead; it exercises the same profit reporting.
Do I need Shopify Plus to use Intelligems?
No for price, shipping, discount and content tests; those work on standard Shopify plans. Yes for checkout tests and personalizations. Intelligems’ documentation states that checkout modifications require a Shopify Plus account because app blocks in checkout are only available to Plus merchants, and that checkout tests need the Unlimited or Checkout & Post-Purchase plan.
How much traffic do you need for Intelligems price testing?
Intelligems’ own rule of thumb is about 300 orders per test group to detect a 10% change in conversion at 90% confidence, and it recommends running for at least a full week. Profit-based reads need more. Our practical floor is roughly 1,000 orders a month before a price test is worth the wait; below that, test offers and content first.
Is Intelligems better than Shoplift?
They are built for different tests. Intelligems is the tool for price, discount, shipping-threshold and checkout tests with profit reporting. Shoplift is the simpler, cheaper tool for theme and template tests and now has price testing in beta on its Advanced plan. Many of the Shopify stores we work with run both, one for offers and one for layouts.
Can Intelligems test shipping thresholds?
Yes. The Smart Shipping module tests free-shipping thresholds, flat, weight and zone rates, adds a shipping progress bar, personalizes rates by audience and tracks profit on every shipping test. Shipping-threshold tests are the highest-value experiment most stores have never run. For Momentous, one such test added $2M in profit.
